About me

Sometimes it can be difficult to reach out for help, it can even be difficult to accept that help is available and to believe that things can change. I have lots of experience and many years of training to draw on – it is unlikely I won’t be familiar with the difficulty that brings you here. Psychotherapy is a chance to begin the process of living the life you want. It offers a chance to explore what is happening and to gain insight into your responses and whether these still serve you. My approach is tailored to your needs, drawing on a range of psychotherapy models to enable us to work deeply and relationally on the difficulties you face. Together we will seek to build your understanding and awareness in order to shift unhelpful patterns of relating to yourself, to others and to the situations and challenges you face.

My approach to couples therapy

When I work with you as a couple, it is your relationship that is the focus of our work. Being part of a couple can be difficult and as partners you may need support at any time in your relationship. It may be difficult to communicate with one another, you may feel distant. Perhaps something has happened to change how you feel about one another, there may be a crisis in your relationship or shared goals may have changed. Initially we will meet every week to talk about what is happening for you and to explore ways forward. We might focus on how you communicate with each other and through this we can build a firm base on which you can then start to resolve difficulties. Sessions will be at least 60 minutes per week but depending on what is best for you both we may agree to have sessions of 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Our first couples session

The first time we meet I will want to get to know you both and will ask you to explain as clearly as you can the reasons you have come to see me. I don’t offer any quick fixes, relationships are hard work and relationship therapy may involve you looking at and trying to change long established patterns that no longer serve you. Sometimes I may suggest homework for you to undertake between sessions. For more information about me and how I work please see my website.
